۲۰۳۰ Olympics seek leader, financial guarantee before French parliament

The organising committee for the 2030 Winter Olympics in France is looking for a leader as the government closely monitors the process. The new inter-ministerial delegate for the Olympic and Paralympic Games has been appointed, and parliament is set to vote on the state’s financial guarantee as part of the 2025 budget.

wintersportsnews: With France still basking in the summer glow of the Paris Olympics, preparations are already underway for the 2030 Winter Games in the Alps. France has already secured the event, but the International Olympic Committee (IOC) requires a financial guarantee from the French state, which must be approved by March 2025 at the latest.

The Finance Bill 2025 proposes a state guarantee of up to €۵۰۰ million to cover the event until the end of 2030 in the event of full or partial cancellation. A separate global guarantee for potential deficits will be determined later, once the Organising Committee’s budget has been finalised.

While the statutes of the organising committee have been finalised, the leadership remains to be decided. Renaud Muselier, president of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur regional council, confirmed that a sports personality would head the committee. Five-time Olympic biathlon champion Martin Fourcade is a leading candidate, but lobbying is ongoing, with a decision expected by the end of November, according to sources close to the matter.

This week, the government appointed Pierre-Antoine Molina, a former Paris Olympics coordinator, as the new inter-ministerial delegate. The previous delegate, Michel Cadot, joined the cabinet of Prime Minister Michel Barnier. An inter-ministerial committee and a coordination committee have also been set up by decree to ensure cooperation between the main players.
